I am the author of the new book about Annie "Londonderry" Kopchovsky and her great-grandnephew. Thanks to Pinchie for this post. For those interested, the book is called "Around the World on Two Wheels: Annie Londonderry's Extraordinary Ride." It's available from Amazon.com and many other online and bricks and mortar retailers.

One small correction, though. Nellie Bly did not travel around the world by bicycle. In 1889, Bly, a famous journalist, proposed to her publisher, Joseph Pulitzer, that she could get around the world in less than 80 days as a publicity stunt for the The New York World. She traveled by train, boat, and carriage but not by bicycle. The first person to circle the globe by bicycle was Thomas Stevens who made the trip between 1884-6.
