Riding a hartdtail uphill requires a bit more finesse in the form of subtle fore-to-aft weight shits over obstacles, and knowing when to get out of the saddle altogether. Basic techniques learned long ago, ignored for a while, and now re-learned.

Great article...need a better proof reader----I hope you don't really move fore to aft doing a weight SHIT. :)

Karl,

I have made up my mind to go with a Hardtail 29'er and this one tops my list so far. i am very interested in what you have to say about the bike and even more interested in taking a test ride on one soon. I too am coming off of a full suspension bike with lots of travel but miss my hardtail severely.
Thank you for taking your time to gather all the infomation as well as your thoughts to give us what I know will be a great review...

Karl, this is exactly my current riding situation. I have been riding 26" full suspension bikes for years, but now I am in the market for a 29" hardtail. I'll be following this to see how we compare as I take this journey too.

This bike test couldn't have come at a better time, as EWR is on my short list of 29" considerations.

I'm looking forward to the next update.
