Very cool! We've been doing essentially the same kind of thing with our now 18 month old pup, Mojo. He's 1/2 Border Collie and 1/2 Australian Shepherd. He's a natural herder and so has taken well to following bikes on the trail. I spent a lot of time last season working on obedience formally (still do) and trail manners. He's developing into a good trail dog (always poops off trail!) and will continue to improve. My only regret other than ride time lost to training time is that his fur is so long! It's a P.I.T.A. to clean him up after a romp in the woods but worth it!

Good luck with your trail dog training!

I've been riding with Grete for 6 years (she's a 7yr old weim) and she will go to my back tire with a one word command "back". They're generally too loyal and codependant to leave you.

Awesome! I've wondered about riding with my weim and I'd like to know how the training and riding goes. My guy's similar to yours, just older (4 in September): follows voice commands off lead, stays with me (for the most part), and has enough stamina to stick with me on a 10 mile run or long hike. Keep us updated!
