Trek sues Greg LeMond
Posted: April 8th, 2008 by PinchieI was wondering why Trek prez John Burke called a press conference today, and now I know why: Trek is suing Greg LeMond to “sever ties” with America’s first Tour De France champion. LeMond had earlier served notice to Trek that he wasn’t happy about what he thought was feeble marketing by Trek on behalf of the LeMond line of bikes.
It’s been no secret that there’s bad blood between LeMond and other elite American cyclists, and this certainly won’t help. According to documents posted at Trek’s website, LeMond feels that Trek is giving preference to Lance Armstrong-related products and marketing efforts.
My view? It will be a shame if this means the end of LeMond bikes, which have been uniformly a tasteful and good-looking presence on the streets and bike paths of the nation.
Extra credit: Though LeMond does not offer a dirt bike line, Greg himself has won one prestigious mountain bike race. Can you name it?

So Greg has been screwed over by Trek. Who hasn’t? The so called “American bicycle company” that can’t manage to sell any American bikes for under $2500, has put $ well ahead of ethics over the last 10-15 years. Greg deserves better. The bikes Trek is “designing”(maybe) and “purchasing” from their Asian sweat shops in his name are a disgrace to Greg’s name and renown as the greatest (drug free) American racer to ever win the Tour. I hope he seeks out another builder (I.F., Ellsworth, Waterford, etc.) here or in Europe that will be proud to build his bikes, not merely contractually obligated. Trek and Lance deserve each other! Now I have to hope Lance’s lawyers don’t sue me too.

I agree with colnagowl on pretty much every point. Lemond bikes had a very comfortable feel. Greg Lemond has nothing more to prove to anyone. I hope he is fishing alot!. Trek did neglect the Lemond line in the last few years. I think Lemond will be better off without the empire looming over his shoulder.
