This has probably been argued through many times, but let's hear your best mud-shedding stories. What about Interloc's new knobbies? (Best = combination of light weight, mud-shedding, puncture protection, blah blah).

Just finished reviewing the Continental Mountain King 2.4 and it worked great in mud. Check issue 134 out soon...

wow, i never thought a tire that big could work well in the mud. but i guess it depends on the kind of mud, soupy or sticky.

I'm not sure what measurements the DR folk took, but mine are most definitely NOT 2.4's. Conti has always been known for, um, overestimating tire sizes. I have mine mounted to Velocity Blunts, and I get a casing measurement of 52mm(they've stretched a bit - after airing up they were 49mm!). Knob to knob, they're 58mm. I'd more readily label the 2.4's a 2.2.

That said, they look like a great tire for soft loamy trails and muddy ones too. We have too much snow on our trails to really get 'em out there, but they sure look nice for sloppy conditions.

Agreed, I'm trying out the 2.2's and they are smaller than my Maxxis Crossmarks.

Add another vote for the Mountain King 2.4; and as others noted it's not as wide as its stated size.

Another tire I'd suggest, for the rear anyway, is the Michelin XC Mountain AT. It's wider than it's stated 2.0 size (more like a 2.2), and hooks up in just about anything and sheds mud very well. Doesn't really have enough side knobs for front tire duties imo, but I've heard of people running them up front as well.

P.S.- The Michelin does come in a 29er size despite the fact that the Michelin site doesn't show it. Or didn't last I checked anyway.

Contis do their measuring with the tyre flat, add the curve and it's narrower. Another vote for 2.4 Mountain Kings, which are pretty much the same size as Nevegals[which don't work that well] Kings aren't a true mud tyre, more of an all rounder but they work in Wales [av precipitation 60"+]
