I'm building a surly km and am wondering what tires i should use. i want an aggressive yet mid-size tire. i'm thinking about using WTB Mutano raptors. does anyone have other suggestions?
thanks a lot

I started out with NanoRaptors for their volume and versatility, but now I'm running some knobby Bontrager (Jones?) in the worser weather with good results.

For MTB use, dry mostly this season, I've always been happy with a Nanoraptor rear. Front, the Bontrager is outstanding. In the same spec, it'd be a super 26" for sure, too. 29" offers so much more traction, that I haven't founf the need to go Bontrager or Kenda for the rear yet.
Wet conditions, the Kenda's seem to rule, although I haven't tried them yet. A buddy tried my 26" FS bike with 29" rigid front, and reported the front Kenda Klaw had "too" much grip. He just didn't need it. He did love the Bontrager on my rigid KM, it's better than any 26" tire he's come across, even with sussy fork.
I tried the Mutano as a rear once, it rolled nicely but was really prone to pinch flat (although I just felt rims without failure), it requires a lot of psi and doesn't offer enough traction. I'm gonna try if front and rear though, on my just finished Surly Cross-Check. I won't be able to race the bike that way, but it should be lots of fun commuting and doing some short epics.

I've got the IRC mythos on mine. They work pretty well. I've been impressed with them. I'd like to try the Kendas, and am really curious about the Conti's that'll be out soon.
