PA DCNR is having a kick off event to get folks out on the Eagleton Mine Camp Trail in Sproul State Forest. The trailhead is 9 miles Northwest of Lock Haven. A very cool 21 mile single-track loop. We should have multiple groups going out sorted by skill and desire. The county tourist folks are going to be providing some refreshments (juice, cookies) at the beginning and us un-officially some barley pop after. I pre-rode the course a few weeks ago and it is way cool.

Directions from Lock Haven:
Take 120 North from Lock Haven, towards Renovo. After the big "Sproul State Forest" look for Eagleton Rd on your left. Turn left on Eagleton Rd and drive back about 3 miles.

I've only a ridden a couple of miles of the 'easy section' starting near the Parking lot under the powerline on Eagleton Road--I wasn't impressed (seems like you get the same trail effect by just riding randomly through the woods) are other parts of the trail better?

They local DOF folks have done some work along with other local users and residents. The PA DCNR is seeing this trail as a test case to see if there is enough interest in MTB trails in the less “developed” PA forests. Honestly the trailright from under the power line ain’t ridden in too well yet, the stuff further away was pretty well done though.

I'm glad to hear that it is better on other parts of the trail. I will have to ride the complete trail.

***somewhat related rant ***

I know PA is marketing the "PA Wilds" (north central PA) as a destination for outdoor activities--I've seen the slow steps of 'progress'. They have put up informational Kioks on SR144, there are slick brochures out there, a recommend driving tour, etc. The state also commission a marketing firm to to a detailed study about improvements they should make to boost outdoors tourism.

I'm disappointed that PA-Wild promotion is going on. By advertising and increasing tourism, the very thing people are seeking will be at the best dilluted, and at the worst destroyed. True wild areas are few and far between in the east.
