Did anyone else do the 24 Hours of Big Bear (http://grannygear.com/Races/Bigbear/2006/prize_list.shtml) this past weekend?

Karl posted a World Tour gallery (http://www.dirtragmag.com/gal/showgallery.php?cat=596), and a proper web report is due shortly.

Indeed. What a great race this year! The course was fast without knocking out the crazy technical stuff WV is known for.

It appears your team kicked some arse! Good show.

We'll be back next year for sure and if word of mouth spreads, I think Big Bear will be infinitely larger. RIP bad Snowshoe juju..Granny Gear did well to secure this locale.

Yes I did...and I shook your hand. I was a rider on the Huevos Del Toro team that took the top spot in the mens sport category.

Great race and event!! You guys ran some great competition. Never did we ever think we'd be in the top spot of the podium. Our goal was to break into the top 10, the same goal we had last year. Last year we got 11th by 1 minute 18 seconds.

I picked up a DR beanie and pint glass on Saturday morning. The beanie prettymuch saved my life due to the freakin' coldness that was going on all weekend. I'm currently testing the beer-retaining properties of the pint glass, and so far it is top-notch.

Oh, when/where were the drag races? I saw that there were gonna be some drag races on Friday night, complete with radar gun, but I must've missed 'em.

Nice to shake your hand... you guys beat us pretty well there, getting that 18th guy out. Right? Or do they now allow people to finish just before 12 and not send another out? The online results are strange looking. Seemed to show your 17th lap finished before noon earlier, and now shows just after. And it shows that we got a five minute penaty for something.

Would you believe that we really had no idea of the team names or numbers that we were competing against? We were just riding, and realized at some point in the early morning that we had something to race for. Its a good thing we had Ryan on the team, as his five laps are what got us on the podium. Interns are good for more than fetching ice cream.

That was really an awesome course. So much fun...

The drag races never happened.

Yeah, we noticed the time was botchy too. We never got an 18th lap; our finisher was crossing the bridge as Laird was counting down 3-2-1-race over, so by the time he got to the check-in the race was over (by Laird's announcement) even though the original online results showed 11:59:30 or whatever. What I think happened is that this was when the main generators ran out of gas and the real-time-results weren't working correctly...the scorers took his card and said he didn't need to scan-in.

We were pretty psyched when we found out how well we were doing after our first set of laps or so early on, then estatic when we were going into our 3rd set and still holding strong. Things got a little tighter when I broke my chain a mile in on my last lap, as that took away a lot of the cushion we had built up while I repaired it trailside and nearly lost my chain tool in the leaves on the ground.

That's awesome, man, nice job. Like you guys, we were just hoping to finish in a respectable position—like not last. Turns out our current intern (DJSmallFry on these forums) was fast enough to make up for my slowness.

It was all those hill repeats (ice cream fetching) that made me fast you know ;)

mmmm... ice cream... mmmm... yeah...

i'm just glad we had the buffer that we did, otherwise I would have really had to work hard on the last lap (it was hard enough as it was). that 1:14 was an impressive way to wrap things up. nice work!

it was a pleasure shaking hands with the Dirt Rag crew. very nice race gents.

You guys were deff good competition... good to shake your hands too... and once again great race guys!

I didn't get to make it this year but I thought that it was wierd that there was a cold spell that weekend just like there was last year. I can remember being super cold while waiting for my teammate to cross the bridge at night.

Hey, Jeff, I'm pretty sure it was you who lent me your light out on the course at about 1 AM. Both of mine had gone out, and I was stumbling through the end of a lap from hell. Thanks! You got it back, right?

This was my first mountain bike race, and I was quite impressed by the atmosphere. People were just as serious about having fun as they were about competing.

I remember it being a little chilly at night last year, but this year was meat-locker cold. Layers and blankets was the name of the game while waiting at the tent. I was putting warm rocks from our fire pit in my shoes and sleeping bag to warm them up before use. The hell of it was there was like a 90 MPH wind that was blowing all day Saturday, and even with the great sun and clear skies, it felt unseasonably cool during the day. I'll practice for next year by camping in a walk-in cooler for the week leading up to the event.

Yep, that would have been me. And yep, I got the light back, thanks. It's too bad my spare was just a 1w LED and not something bright enough to actually ride with.

I thought I was pretty cold weather hearty but I was shivering like a little bitch sunday at 3am. One again a great time but for some reason the cold just destroyed me. I think I would like to eliminate that rock garden I get very little enrichment out of it
