Is anyone from the forums going to Pedro's Fest (http://www.pedrosfest.com/2006/index.cfm) this year?

As it stands, Karen and I are confirmed to be going. We will likely have a third and maybe a fourth body on board also, as Pedro's is a hell of a trip for us.

Yeah, I think Shannon wants to go, and my little brother is twisting my arm to go, so...

that DR sponsored ride should finish up around 420:cool:
This year I will have a fresh drive trane and will not have climbed Jiminy Peak before the ride.
Not going to make the trip this year, to much work going on at the house and had a falling out with the only mtn biker in this area:( . Hope to be done with the house before that white stuff falls on us!

I'll be there, as a ride leader. Pedrosfest is one of those events that really showcases the mountain biking culture, good or bad, and it is pretty entertaining to observe. I;m definitely looking forward to being there this year. The locals are always up on our "Tequilla Hill," so if you want to get a taste of Berkshire cycling culture, come up and hang out.

I had been planning on it since January, then smashed up my leg. I was signed up to be a ride leader and had to back out. But I'm still getting the ride leader emails, and the leg feels pretty good.... I need to talk to the ride leader coordinator and find out if I am still signed up as a leader. If yes, I'm there. If no...I might still be there. :)
I can't pass up the "Expert ride at an intermediate pace" with all the "I'll prove I'm an intermediate who can ride at an expert pace" yahoos... :D

I may show up as a last minute thing . . . . Doctor business to take care of Thursday, so I can't take Friday off too and make it for the beginner ride.

i'll be ride leading, i already asked the ride lead coordinator if i can lead the dirt rag ride. i should make that "sweep" the DR ride. last year i was scheduled to lead the SS ride at the same time, but i lent a woman my SS, demo'ed a wicked expensive trek top fuel, and did the DR ride with maurice and thanita. the woman who borrowed my SS went out the following week and bought her own SS.
if anyone from the DR crew makes it, definitely come on up to tequila hill. as was said, many ride leaders and berkshire county locals congregate. and it got its name for a reason :)

We'll put Tequila Hill on our to-do list...
Looks like it will be me (Karen), Brad, new "fulfillment expert" Shannon, and new ad dude Andy.
Can't wait!

when I first looked at the link,I thought the DR ride was on Friday. Did it change? Maybe I'll go do the BIKE ride and stop by for some DR merchandise. I want some of those shorts if they're really 2x.

OK, maybe this is the wrong crowd to ask this question of. I'll give it a go anyway.
The preface to the question is this: A group of my friends and I used to go to an archery festival for "traditional" bows during the last weekend in July. It is as sweet a weekend for us hillbilly types as you could imagine. Especially if one hunts with sticks and strings as this group and I do. The fly in the ointment this year, and in the future, is that one of this group has died. His end was, in part, how he had expressed it should be. There was no long and protracted suffering. One moment he was helping his brother-in-law putting on a snow plow, the next he was lying in the Utah snow breathing his last breath.
None of our group wishes to attend the archery festival given our friends demise. Too many ghosts and shadows in the north PA woods. Maybe next summer if my kids want to, but they miss their friend too.
I guess my question is this: Is Pedro's worth the 12-14 hour drive from NE Ohio for and old codger and his 12 yr. old son? He isn't a died-in-the-wool cyclist yet. I was hoping an event like this would tip the scale in that direction. What else is there in the area that a pre-teen that adores PS2 and soccer would want to do besides bikes? Should I plan for one or two days of riding before returning, and let things go as they may?
Decisions...
I have gone to Pedro's for the last 2 years and had a really good time, it was worth the long drive to get there. I went for the party at nite more than anything! This year, I am not going to make the trip, but I am going to Ellicotville Mtb Fest the weekend of Aug 11, it's alot closer and should be a great time too. If it is a bust, I'll work my way back to N.E. Ohio through the Allegheny Forest and see what kind of riding I can find. I'm sure your son will have a good time with you where ever you take him. Sorry to hear about your friend.

Pedro's is a great time. 12-14 hrs w/ a 12 y/o is a long drive. Unfortunately,I don't think the trails they use are open once the festival closes.
I do think a 12 y/o would have a great time though.
BTW,my friend's flight is delayed. I think I'll be at the DR ride!!!
