My Dad and I are thinking about turning an old lugged steel frame of ours into a single speed... If anyone has info about a spacer for the rear wheel to convert the 8 speed into a 1 speed that would help out alot.

Thanks

hey, the trick is to find an old cassette and steal all the spacers, preferably the aluminum ones, the little thin washer spacers help too. then just stack 'em up on your cassette body, put the cog in the right place (check your chain line with a metal ruler if possible or any solid straight edge), another spacer or two, then the lock ring. best is if you find an old uniglide (no shift ramps) type cog with big teeth! now enjoy!

I think Sheldon Brown at Harris sells what your looking for, he also has the best website for converting cheap. The cleanest way to go is the kit from soulcraft. Everything you need and hands down the best tensioning devise.
