Today at 4:00pm, the 20th annual Montezuma's Revenge is getting under way. it is widely thought of as the hardest 24 hour mountain bike race in the world. The course features over 37,000 feet of climbing, yes 37,000. Also, riders will be crossing the continental divide at least 10 times, and summiting 14,272ft Grays Peak in the middle of the night. The race is always scheduled around the full moon cycle, making it a bit easier to deal with the Colorado night. Two time defending champ, Josh Tostado, will be there trying to hold on to his title. Byron Sweezy, race organizer, has never come out of this race in the black. He says promoting this race is a service to the hardcore cycling community, despite losing money every year. I can say firsthand that this event rocks. I'd like to see more competitors come out in the future, it may help secure the future of this incredible and inspiring event. So, if you're into endurance races and think you're hardcore enough, give it a try. I'll post some pics in the gallery in a few days...
