starting a new thread

the issue of Lance Armstrong and drugs not withstanding...

Even though Cycling is the most tested sport, I always think it is the one sport where people are always trying to get an edge. When I read that the third place finisher in the Tour de France's Wife was found with doping paraphenelia I already confirmed in my mind that Raimondas Rumsas was a doper. Now maybe he isn't, but during the time trial I wondered how did he improve (during the tour) to be half a minute ahead of Lance, until a mechanical. AND on the last day he was jumping to break aways several times.

When it comes to drugs and performance I almost always think they go hand in hand. (I don't think Barry Bonds could hit the boomers he does with out some assistance.) The money in sports is too great an incentive.

The one good thing about cycling is they WANT to end drug usage, I don't see the other sports being so insistant in stopping the usage

IF cycling was really serious about stopping drug use they would institute the "death" penalty for riders caught using - in other words, if you are caught, you are done with the sport FOREVER. It's just a game the way it is - riders busted a few years ago are back in the mix, winning stages, and grabbing the glory. Are the using again? Who knows, but why not?

A good idea, but I don't think it would work. Besides the ablity to mask doping, I think that the desire to be the best...win money, that kind of thing will always be a lure. I bet it would decrease the usage a lot though.
