I just want to say that it's great to see so many female cyclists now in and around Pittsburgh. It used to be such a rare sight, long ago, very anticipated, but rare. I was out last night and just about under half of the riders I encountered were female. Have I just not noticed? I think it's great.

Watch out!!!!! We are going to take over.

I am very excited that more women ride too. It is really growing down here in the South as well. That means more riding buddies for me.

I rode a new trail last weekend out of HoodRiver OR on the WA side of the Columbia gorge. Not real technical, some interesting features but steep and a long steep 3.7 miles of switchbacks and a real steady hard up. Probably 1/3 of the riders were Women. I never see women where I normally ride. It was great to see. Actually I just like to see people having a great time and everybody had a smile and a cheeful sentence or two.

Yeah, it's great to see women in the saddle - no reason why we shouldn't be, but . . . I love seeing little girls racing and loving it. Start 'em small, eh? I'd like to see more women doing some trails/down hill stuff . . . it's a lot of fun, but I think we're more tentative as most girls don't learn how to get down and dirty until they're older. I'm working on my wheelies and jumping techniques. Feel kinda dumb sometimes, but you know what - that just makes me want to do it more!!Grrrr . . . :D

One of my favorite quotes:

"Where else are women encouraged to be strong and independent - to sweat and spit and get dirty?"

I was lucky... My dad started me out early. I traipsed along behind cutting wood, bird hunting, deer hunting, fishing... didn't matter. That takes a lot of time as a parent to have little ones traipse along. I appreciate that now it makes me a much more rounded person.

And.... Dirt washes off.
