View Full Version : Horizontal dropouts & QR skewers
Is anyone running quick release skewers with horizontal dropouts? I am running On-One Retard rims with chaintugs on my Inbred. Carrying 2 wrenches to get the bolts off is a pain in the rear. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

I gave up on a qr with horizontal dropouts pretty quick, even though it was an old steel Shimano that is supposed to work. If you must use a qr, in theory you could find a hollow axle that was just long enough to extend well into, but not through, the tugs. I don't know of one, though. I just carry the two wrenches. Craftsman makes a "stubby" series, and you can get a 15mm or whatever that's only about 4" long. It'll fit in a seat pack just fine.

I've never had luck with a QR and horz on a MTB.
I've also never needed two wrenches to take off a wheel, so I guess I can't relate.
Surly makes a chain tug that has a QR end adaptor, they also make the Jethro Tule.

I found this thing called "FunBolts?" on the Chris King website. They are bolt-on axles that use a hex wrench. I'll just get one of these and forego the skewer.
