hey

while reading issue 100 (good job by the way) i noticed a bunch of people threeatening you with cancelled subscriptions due to you stating your views on the war. This was rediculous. first of all being un-american isn't wrong.i consider myself unamerican, because i dont' stand for the wars, imperialism, and environmental destruction this country is a part of. but calling someone unamerican because of their views on a controversial issue is retarded. that kid from st college pa is a moron. "you're un-american because you stated your opinion and it made me think" isn't one of the rights in the bill of rights freedom of speech???? so how is it unamerican to exercise that right? if anything in this case that kid is unamerican for accusing you of being so. so anyways first off thanks for keeping it real and supporting peace. second off being unamerican isn't always bad. third off. protesting war isn't unamerican, even if it has a magazine name attatched to it. and fourth all of you that support the war. i strongly dissagree and could probably prove you wrong on numerous points, but as long as you express your opinion in a mature manner (without threatening to unsubscribe) thats cool. thats what freedom of speech is all about. so dirtrag people please don't change your mag just cause some morons think they are great patriots for cancelling a subscription. all they are are hypocits. thanks for the great mag keep it up.

I also was suprised with the amount of negative mail/cancelation letters. Every American kid learns in grade school that EVERY American has a right to freedom of speech. You don't have to listen, agree, or even read their opinions, but it'd be polite to respect them none the less, just as your fine rag has done by printing stories from both sides. Thanks for being brave (and unmedia-infuenced) enough to present a different view. In my opinion, nothing is more fundamentally "American" than being considered "Unamerican." Keep up the good work.

Either way you swing on the issue. Fundamental thought processes begin with definitions. I would think by definition to be American would be to support the constituion and freedom of speech is in the constitution.

It is nonsensical (to my mind) to say one is Unamerican because they exercise their constitutional rights.

There are many lines a person can cross to be "Unamerican" but freely speaking is not one of them. I never noticed a note of disrespect in Maurices opinions. Disrespect is a line too often crossed.

I believe there is a debt that all of us whom speak freely owe - and it is to those that see to it that we can speak freely.

Me - I support the effort - I also think the effort is a lost cause. Now isn't that confusing.

My 2 cents

PS I finally got my issue today.
