Across the way from my place is a crappy little city park. It’s actually got some decent singletrack, with a couple challenging climbs and some fun descents but most of the trails are for quads and dirtbikes. Anyway, it serves a purpose –when you get done work and there’s only an hour of light left and you want a quick ride.
So I’m out there having a blast, everything is covered in fresh powder but there’s day old quad tracks frozen into the snow, which actually make a pretty good twisty burmy trail, when I look up and see this crap. It just took it out of me.
A) Spray Painting Trees is moronic
B) Spray Painting Racist sh!t on trees is even more retarded
C) Spray Painting Racist sh!t on trees in a forest in a predominately white middle class area tops it.
i don't know, maybe ther are rival gangs of jews and blacks roaming Moore Park. maybe there's some kind of forest race war going on that I'm not aware of?
i know whomever did it was young and naive, but it's just so cowardly and stupid and pointless. i hope the skeevy pieces of shit that did it would just die.

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.
The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.
There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

I can't grasp the mentality of these people, even if it was just a bunch of stoopid teens w/idle hands...:(

that woudl be great. make it a big news thing, and then the little buggers that did it will freak out that they are going to be thrown in jail for hate crimes. i bet they would never do it again.

some kids just seem to have too much idle time on their hands. maybe there should be mandatory suburban chain gangs? or, send these kids into the projects and make them sell cookies?

primitivengine, i disagree. i think it would encourage them. they won't get caught, and in their pathetic Eminem mindset, they'll be white trash outlaws. plus it'd just be sensational bullsh!t on the 6pm news. i'd rather just give em the ulock if i catch em
f the cops. as pissed as i am, i'm no snitch.
the idea that they took spray paint out there is what gets me. it was premeditated. what results did they hope for? plus grafiti is usually associated with hip hop, so it's redneck wiggers. i hate them

yeah, after i posted, i realized that kids, if it is in fact kids, (which it probably is) won't be swayed by much until they actually experience life on their own terms.

I caught a couple of middle school aged kids throwing similar grafitti onto a retaining wall by my house when I was riding home from a late night about six months ago. I did the "super-angry scary guy", followed by the "reasonable, why the hell are you doing this" speech, and they went home looking sheepish.
Kids are stupid. One embarassing encounter and they'll probably outgrow it.

I don't think the message contained in this song really applies here but it is a great song with an even greater message!
Hopefully the brats that did this are just in a phase of adolescence where they feel a need to rebel and will outgrow it. I think much of this kind of thing is done by kids with a desire to go against the grain a bit but no real desire to do any harm. Of course they weren't thinking of the living being that is the tree......

That's why I isolated the qoute that I did & took it toward a different context. Though the song may be more about classes than race. I should've just stopped after the first two lines. :)

The high-school closest to you (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brashear_High_School) has an especially bad problem with racism.

I mostly brush this sort of stuff off as it is most likely the work of kids with nothing else better to do. If they do it enough, I am sure that karma will catch up to them.

The high-school closest to you (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brashear_High_School) has an especially bad problem with racism.
I grew up out in Westmoreland county. We used to compete against some of the City League schools in baseball, track, basketball (that was always fun), and even scrimmaged Brashear in football. The club-level scooer team I played for played them at South Stadium on Carson St (Is it still there?), and some of the other city clubs up at the Schenley Oval.
We nearly had incident at our school after the fooball scrimmage when a few of Brashear's players wouldn't remove there do-rags inside our cafeteria (a standing rule). Coaches had to step in from both sides.
Given the diversity of ethnicities at Brashear I can see the racism issue. Penn Hills had the same problems back in the 1970's when I was in school. Routinely there would be near-riots emptying into the parking lots there.
