So i was reading a review on a bike the other day and they mentioned that it has a slack head angle. Two things occured to me just then. 1)I don't really know what they mean by "slack" in pertaining to the head angle and 2) that since I am still a Newb to all this, there are still alot of terms/lingo that I don't know. I was thinking maybe for those of us that are still learning things people could randomly post terms/lingo and provide a brief definition/description. Also, if anyone has their own term that they invented for something feel free to share and start a trend haha. Thanks everyone!
p.s. it would be cool to see if the people from across the pond have different terms for stuff then we do and what they are.

steep head tube angles are closer to vertical, slack are closer to horizontal. steep = kids tricycle, slack = hacked chopper, for an extreme example.
steep gives you twitchy and can be hairy on the downhills, slack gives you more stability on the hills and gets that front wheel out further infront of you. if you get TOO slack (like if you hang a longer fork on it than is recommended) it'll have the effect of giving you heavy feeling steering.

derby - 1. (n.) the act of many riders circling each other and attempting, with hands on bars and feet on pedals, to forcibly dismount all other riders in the circle. syn - Roundy-round
2. (v. tr.) to be forcibly dismounted from a bicycle, either by another rider or by some other means. ex. "Flameburger derbied me on the way out of White Castle. I never saw it coming!"

bail - (v.) to jump off in order to avoid an imminent crash.
The Mizz often does this so that she doesn't smack up her perty bike or her perty face:D
although - my last bail attempt got me eating pavement leaving the trail at Sycamore in Cali. two bruised up knees and nasty bloody scabs = can't ride till the weekend anyways... so time to heal.

>"Chi chi? Chi chi??"
>"No, first aid won't be necessary..."
That books been around a while...remember reading it like 10+ years ago.

Hey, yeah - this is one of the books that you recommended to me - I haven't gotten around to reading it as I am jsut finishing up NED OVEREND... I've been practicing some of the techniques in the book and I have found my peace with balance... except for the time I crashed and landed my knees!:D
The other one looks cute... more for kids? Is there any books that you can recommend for children to make riding fun? Hmmm:rolleyes:

Oh, and remembering back to that book, I also found my copy of "Mountain Biking for Mere Mortals" book...I couldn't find a spiffy picture of the cover, but I highly recommend this book...quite funny and a good 'reference' manual.

My fave is the method for telling if a rider is injured, if the first thing the rider asks after a crash is "My bike is it ok?" the rider's fine. If the rider doesn't ask about their bike, call 911.
