my regular commuter is a geared road bike. its pretty fast, or at least fast compared to the knobbied bikes ive been riding all my life. my commute is real hilly, but short. i get to work quickly. anyway, the weather has been pretty bad so i've neen taking my SS mtn bike and riding on the unshovelled sidewalks since i can't keep up with traffic. i'm not so fast anymore and my commute takes about 3x longer but i don't mind cause the pedestrian traffic has created singletrack on the unshoveled sidewalks which is fun.

anyway, today was another craptacular day so i took the SS. conditions were identical to yesterdays, and the day prior and the day prior to that, but i got to work in approx 10 minutes? id really have to bust my balls to do that on a clear day on my roadbike -obviously there is a wormhole somewhere enroute. anyone else ever discover a breach in the time/space continuum?

yeah, if you let the snow settle and compact, it's alot easier to ride. doesn't account for you beating your road bike speeds though, that's strange. though I have had a watch slow down because of the cold...looses a couple minutes for every hour under -25.

I'm guessing you found Betty and Barney Hill's missing 10 minutes of UFO Abduction time.

assuming that you didnt mis-read your watch i would suggest that the improvement was mental...i am continually amazed (with the same body/same bike) just how much my times change depending on my mood...

remember the Ralphie's blind rage? "a christmas story (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Christmas_Story)"...where you by chance swearing profusely during the ride???
