OK-so I converted my bike to ss awhile back. I thought twice about it at first. I did some riding aruond where I live, nothing drastic, just enough to get used to the fact that that one gear was IT. Climbs were a bit tough but,it's pretty much the same gear I used to leave my shifty stuff in most of the time. I felt a difference. SO( to make a long story LONGER!) I just got back from Pisgah,in Asheville,NC. I was there for five days. I did not plan on taking my ss. I thought,"I'll rent a nice full Trek Fuel or something." I didn't think it would be wise to attempt to do that much riding on an ss. It would kill me! Well for a few reasons, money mostly,I ended up taking my bike. I think I did alot more climbing that decending and let me tell you-I didn't even THINK about shifting! And I did actually pass several shifties going up hill!
So I have to wonder what the point to all those gears were in the first place. I'll tell you what though,DISC BRAKES, Now they would be nice!

Very cool. What trails did you ride? What gear ratio did you run?

I've been giving thought to riding my SS in Pisgah but that is some serious, technical climbing. I might just do it though because I am falling in love with my SS...

Kitsuma trail rocks...

I think my gear ratio is 32-18. Man take the SS to Pisgah! Ya there are a few sick climbs, but nothing you can't handle. You won't miss the mess of shifting-that's a promise! I only spent 5 short days in Asheville.I rode most of Bent Creek and a few trails in the actual Pisgah forest. F-ING awsome. I've decide to move there(Asheville, not the forest)
So,where's Kitsuma?

Striker,

I've been thinking about the SS in Psgah as well. If you decide to try it, post it on smallbrowndog and I'll try to round up some folks to join ya.
