I just returned from a winter road ride. The temp here at the New Jersey Shore is 30 degrees and very windy. I was wearing my new Nashbar Outlast Mid-Weight gloves. My hands were the warmest parts of my body. For $24.99, you can't go wrong.

+30F doesn't strike me as super cold either. Once we hit 30 here I'm still wearing a pair of BMX gloves. If it's really windy in that range though, that might be the first time I break out the Windstopper fleece gloves.

Once we drop a little further (-5F or below), that's when I break out the Toko mitts (http://www.toko.ch/toko/katalog.asp?view=detail&did=906&dart=4&tid=4761&sid=2). Those are the best cold weather solution I've come across, though they're $20 more expensive than that nashbar glove BFG mentioned.

I only get away from the kids one day a week so I have to go no matter what.

Since I’m new at this, and am not really geared up, the couple cold days that I went out I just grabbed an old pair of winter gloves that I found laying around the house. I guess it would have been comical if my hands didn’t hurt so bad.. When its warm, (50 - 25), I’ve been using an old pair of full finger neo water-ski gloves. Don’t think I’ve been out any warmer than that.

I’ve been paying close attention to the threads with glove recommendations and 25 bucks looks hard to beat.. I would think 30 is colder on the street because of the speed.

+30 F? Psh! I ride topless down to 0 F. I may or may not even put any shorts on, depending on how long the ride is. My bare ass does get chapped on those long chilly winter rides though.

Seriously though, get some pogies. I got these (http://www.trails-edge.com/retail/te_shirts/amfbikemits.htm) recently and I am in love. I can wear summer gloves down to 25 F with them, maybe lower if I'm working hard. My hands have poor circulation and I am usually reaching for insulated gloves any time its below 60 or so. Plus you get much better dexterity and grip on the bars, and with them my hands never seem to overheat and sweat too much either.

I used to look pretty funny out there in the winter wearing nothing but big thick winter gloves and tighty-whities. Now I look way cooler with giant mittons over my handlebars!

Those Moose Mitts look pretty awesome. Wonder if they would work on drop bars?

I still use the same Lake CX Zero gloves I got a couple years ago - they're warm enough for snowboarding too, but still allow dexterity.

i recently got the Swix lobster/xc skiing gloves and they are a turd sandwich in <10 degree. if i throw in handwarmers its better. plus they are starting to die already after only 2 months.
on the upside very nice in the 20-30 dgree range, bearable in 10-20 but unfortunately are too hot for anything over 35. they work well for road or mtn biking but suck for snowballs

i need a better cold weather glove.

No, at least not if you are using shifters, the cables get in the way. MIGHT work on a fixie/ss. If you're interested though, I bet they'd be willing to custom make them for drop bars, they make them in small batches. Let them know they would have at least one more customer for a drop bar pattern, me!

I've been using a pair of Raceface Aquanot gloves for years up here in the great white north. These things won't wear out. It was -13 c this morning and my hands felt good. I've used them in temps down to around -20 but the finger get chilly at those temps.
I don't the these gloves are available any longer so when the time comes to replace them I'll go for decent quality XC ski gloves - to be honest, they are basically the same thing.

Pearl Izumi Inferno Half lobster mits are the worst cycling purchase I have ever made!

I'm using a pair of Spec. Sub Zeros this year and I love em! They are a two piece, the outer is good for roughly 35+F and with the liners in I've neer had cold fingers riding in down to 12F rides.

They're about 45$ though!
