Is there anywhere you can go and build your own frame? There are probably very few people who would be into this but I have been curious from time to time about if there is a place that would let you go in, pick your material, pick your angles, do the actual welding, then paint it yourself. Or pick what operations you want to do yourself and let the pros do the others.

UBI, ( the bike school address given) does one. It seems pretty cool, you can do steel, ti, tig, brazed, etc. Lots of choice, plus they teach you whats going on. The only thing is no paint.
Also if you wanted to come out to New England, Hot Tubes does one. It seems pretty one on one, and they'll paint your frame at the end.

I am going to keep Brew in mind for next year. Bike school is 2 weeks and I can't leave work for that long all at once.
I also already have my time and money spoken for this year and this give me enough time to be certain what type of frame I want to build. Right now, I am thinking of a SS crossbike with disc mounts. (Can you do that?) But who knows. That could change to a rigid 29er, a solid 26' SS, a fillet brazed or lugged fixie, or who knows...
If anyone else thinks they might be interested let me know. that would be nice to meet up with others down there.
What was the name of the company that was profiled in DR roughly 6-8 months ago? Somehow Bike school doesn't sound right, and i know it wasn't a UCI program. The two writers who took that class really seemed to learn quite a bit, along with getting a frame that they had made themselves. Looked like a great way to spend a few days to me!
