are the stock hubs on the monocog disc compatible? i was checking the specs online and it seems that they are .. anyone know for sure? i'm talking the regular (non-flight model).
what the difference between the flight/mono frames?
i realize one is japaneze steel and one is chromoly .. is there a difference in ride or performance? or better yet .. is there a 400-500 dollar difference?
this could be what drives me over the edge to actually ordering one. my LBS says they can have it here in 2-3 days .. now where are my w-2s?

They have disc hubs.
The standard MC uses a cheaper CroMo tubing and is heavier. The ride of my MC 29er was great. No complaints. The sliding dropouts on the Flight also ups its cost as do the upgraded part pick.

great .. i guess it's the monocog as soon as these taxes come back ..
the regular chain tensioner frame will suite me just fine though and i doubt i'll ever wreck the stock parts.
i have heard some bad things about the MC's headset and bearings .. is this just some online review BS?

The headset on mine died pretty quickly, but those issues are meant to be resolved with the newer (brown) model.
But if the headset does die, by then I am sure you will love the bike and want to put a king on it. Well that is what happend to me.

Cheap headsets are just a fact of stock componentry. Few companies are going to spec a good OEM headset, because most people simply don't look at them on the showroom floor; not a sexy part for most people. The bike is still worth it, though. A friend of mine has one and really likes it. Just know that it is not light, and there will be some upgrading to do.

when you blow it up throw in a $25 FSA headset or something. Not too big of a deal, you can even do it yourself.

i'm just trying to cover all the bases before i buy.this is going to be a big purchase for me and it's going to be my first REAL bike ..
i can understand one or two cheap upgrades to fortify things .. i just don't want to spend hundreds more dollars on a bike i picked because of it's low price.
would it be unreasonable to ask my LBS to do the headset swap before i buy it? or how about asking for a particular tire? (see the "bmx type single speed" thread) if i can get the tire that i want i'll have no need or want for the stocks .. won't most bike shops just let you trade in the unwanted set?
