Ok, I am thinking about attempting my first bike build. I just got a bike nashbar catalog and it has the '06 mon ocog 29er frame for $184.95. That seems like a good deal. Does anyone have experience w/ these frames? Past reviews I have read on Redline frames have been positive. I was thinking a singlespeed would be a good first bike build and I have been wanting a 29er. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The biggest downside about building one up is you can buy the complete bike new for $470 or so.
I bought one as a complete bike and think it is totally great, if a little heavy. I do not notice that when I am sitting on it, though.

I saw the same Nashbar add and thought the same thing. Are the '06's 135mm spacing in the rear? I remember Monocogs used to be 110 mm. Anyone know what the seatpost size is on these frames? Also, does that nashbar deal include the fork - it wasn't clear if it did.

Redline switched the Monocog to 135mm rear hub spacing in 2004 I believe. I had one of the 110mm BMX hub spacing frames which was a 2002 or 2003 model.

I called Nashber earlier this week to check on the 135mm hub spacing. They said, yes, it is 135mm.
They also had a Monocog 26er Flight aluminum frame in all sizes for sale, but that went away in a matter of days--must have been popular.
If you buy from Nashbar, look for a 10% discount. If you go here,
http://www.bikewebsite.com/Otherbikesources.htm
there is a code you can use to get the 10% off.
I decided to buy a bike once I figured up what it would cost to build one, although building would be the fun thing to do, and maybe cost effective if you have some parts already or watched for good prices on eBay and online stores and such. Mainly, I wanted the green 2006 over the brown 2007, but when it is all muddy, I guess it won't matter.

...the only problem being that, apparently, Redline doesn't have any 29ers in Ohio. I have been waiting for awhile now, and it will be a couple more weeks until they get any here, according to my LBS. Maybe I need to go look at something else. Anyone try the GT 29er?

i'm not sure how far into ohio you are but, my redline dealer in charleston wv told me that i could get my 29er in just 2-3 days (Charleston Bicycle Center 304-925-8348 ).
i don't see why your LBS couldn't order it in the same fashion.
