The trek I bought on ebay came w/ tubeless rims / tires... I have never used them before, but am impressed w/ how well they hold air and seem to resist flats (thus far)... but I just bought some new tubeless tires and am wondering about the install... is it pretty much the same as traditional tubed tires or is there something special I need to do?

Thanks,

Mick

There's one step you'll want to leave out, installing the tube.

;)

In all seriousness though, the only advice I can offer is using the Stan's formula. It'll seal your UST set up nicely and you won't get "burping" which can be common on USTs w/o a sealant of some kind. In my experience UST are generally very easy to install, even more so that a traditional folding tire. Installing the Stan's is a breeze with a tubeless system as the tires already do a good job at forming a seal around the rim.

I'm excited. I finally have a UST wheel set coming my way. NO MORE CONVERSIONS!!!! yeah!

Are they Bontrager Tubeless Ready? Or some other brand of rim/tire?

Bontrager TR's require the use of sealant. The tires have a tubeless bead, but a normal tire casing which reduces the overall weight. You MUST use sealant in them though. Other tubeless tires have a heavier casing, so you can get away with not using sealant, but it's recommended.

FYI about Stans: it is an ammonia based sealant. Ammonia reacts with the tire compound and can eat away at the inside of your tire over time, so careful inspection is called for. Also, it does dry out after a couple of months or so. You'll need to periodically check the status of the sealant to see if you get little 'alien heads' of dried sealant floating around. If so, put in a fresh batch of sealant.

Have a water bottle filled with soapy water handy to squirt around the rim/bead interface. That will help everything snap into place.

Basically the same. Here is Mavic's instructions: http://www.mavic.com/ewb_pages/t/techzone_fiche_456.php

The Bontrager Tubeless Ready tires require a sealant (unlike a full UST tire) to hold air.
