Have a question for anyone with knowledge of lighting systems. I have a Nite-Rider HID lighting system that worked without issue for two years. But recently, on a n early morning ride, I think I may have tweaked the wires -- the light shut off after I went over a table top bump, and now it won't stay on when I move (I can get it to light up if I turn it on without moving.) At first, I thought perhaps my battery was just going dead, but I don't think that's the case because the lights are very strong when they come on -- they just don't stay on. So here's my question: does this sound familiar to anyone? Am I wrong or do I have a tweaked wire? And if I do, can this be fixed or do I have to get a replacement lamp?

A teammate of mine on previous 24-hour races I've done had a similar problem with a NiteRider HID; it shut off and wouldn't come back on...I think he had some intermittent problems before the final shut off.

We swapped the bulbs and batteries around among different lights (of the same model) and found that they were fine. The problem ended up being the ballast. He had to send the lights back to NiteRider, but I can't remember if they were under warranty or if he had to pay for the fix.

Either way it's probably repairable. Make sure it's not in the extra length of cable (if you're using one) between the battery and the lamp. If you're really lucky, that'll be a cheap fix.
