The Bicycle Commuter Act would extend the transportation fringe benefit, currently available to transit users and car drivers, to bicycle commuters. The act would provide a tax benefit to employers who offer cash reimbursements to their employee who commute by bicycle. The Bicycle Commuter Act would simply extend the definition of "transportation" in Section 132 (f) of the 1986 IRS code to include "bicycles."

The Bicycle Commuter Act (H.R.807, S.2635) is before congress right now. The League of American Bicyclists website (http://capwiz.com/lab/issues/alert/?alertid=8647031) has more information and a convenient online form for contacting your Representatives and Senators to tell them to support H.R. 807 and S. 2635. It's as easy as entering your zip code and clicking the "go" button—the system generates emails to your Congress-people, which you simply sign and send.

I completed the entire process, including customizing the "form emails" a bit, in a matter of a few minutes. DO IT!!!!:)

I'm Canadian, but I just sent it to my MP anyway and told him to get on the bandwagon. I like this idea. Or a similar. They're already giving people tax breaks on their monthly bus passes.

I am really confused, I checked the Senate and Congressional webpages and show the current Bills to be HR 1498 IH and S 858 IS for this year?

Yikes, I musta followed an old like to the original bill. Here's a link (http://capwiz.com/lab/issues/alert/?alertid=9520176&type=CO) to the the re-introduced version that will generate the proper form letter, with updated info.

Good catch. I just used the new link to send again.

Sorry for the do-over folks, but let's hit 'em up again. The more email from bikers, the better.:D
