I'm delivering my youngest to Dirt Camp Jr. in Killington, Aug 3-9. I plan to spend the week exploring the bookstores, back woods trails, ice cream shops, and microbrewries of central Vermont by road and mtn bike--I'm bringing both. I'd be interested in hooking up with local group rides, and especially interested in finding a cool place to stay. The B&Bs on the web all seem too fussy and expensive, and the motels lack soul. I'm looking for a rustic cabin, non-fancy B&B, or an invitation. I'm a 52-yr-old married guy with a back that loves a good matress, a body that needs a daily shower, a belly that wants a fridge, and a brain that needs a reading light. Any suggestions?

I don't know about a cabin (we used to always stay at a friends), but my wife and I stayed at this place a couple of winters ago. Motel-like w/o being chain, definitely not a B&B. The grounds were nice, and it was not on a major highway. Not sure if the rates are what you are looking for. Location was good. Not a far drive to Killington and Mt. Snow was nearby too. Manchester has a few good places to eat (a good Mexican place was right down the road).
