Not that I really care, cause I'm gonna ride my bike in the woods no matter who's racing, but could this be the first of riders coming back to the big tires as road racing loses it luster?
Rasmussen aims for Olympic mountain bike race:
Michael Rasmussen of Team Rabobank hopes to enter the 2008 Olympic mountain bike races in Peking, he said this week, according to the ANP press agency. "I will make my comeback in August" in the Danish national championships, he said.
"Rabobank thinks it is a good idea and Colnago has already made a mountain bike for me," he noted of the team and equipment agreement. "I will not ride the championship just for fun. I will be there to win it. And, afterwards, I hope that the Danish association will give me a place on the team for Peking."
Rasmussen was mountain bike world champion in 1999, and has been a road rider since 2002."
just a thought.

I'll bet he's pretty fit. He's probably got a shot.

I don't know. Miguel Martinez came back and tried once before and I think he DNF'ed. He'll really have to start riding more and more and more off-road to have a chance at all. The beating his body would take is just too much otherwise. Road riding just simply doesn't demand as much coordination or upper-body strength as MTBing. With all the road racing he's done, he'll have to get back the feeling of riding off-road -- the unconscious body movements for sake of balance -- and do so at a professiojnal level. That takes time. I'm not saying he can't do it -- he certainly has enough tie to do it right now -- but he'll have to put a lot of focus into it, and I'm not sure if Rabobank will like that idea.

Yesterday Bjarne Riis who won the TDF in 1996 admitted that he won it on EPO - he`s the first winner of that race ever to admit using doping - Ullrich will probably follow suit in a short while.
A betting company will give you your money back 25 times if Greg Lemond admits too, 20 times if Armstrong does it and 10 times if Michael Rasmussen comes forward.
Nothig can ruin mountain biking for me personally, but I don`t think our sport needs the bad habits of road racers.
