View Full Version : Ouch.
High-sided my roadbike in a tight corner this morning at ~25 mph. I am sore. Bike is OK, front wheel was a little wonky but it's been fixed, little rash on the saddle. I swear while I was flying through the air I could actually hear splintering carbon fiber, but it was all in my head, except the several grams of material I ground off the side of my Look Carbon Keo pedals.
I'm going to bed now.

Glad to hear that you are okay. The last couple of times I did that things really did seem to pass in slow motion.

That sounds scary as hell. Glad to hear you're OK.
Thanks guys. I am stiff and bruised but only a little road rash.
It was a stupid crash. I was following a buddy I hadn't seen in a while and we were chattering like old ladies. I wasn't really focused on the ride. We came up to this corner, which was at the bottom of a really short drop and then it rose again, right next to a rocky little creek. There was a little girl sitting by the creek looking pissed off, and I remember thinking she looked like she probably ran away from home for some stupid reason. Well, I'm looking to my right, and the girl's big sister comes running across the street from the left, outta nowhere.
My buddy brakes hard and I react too slowly, braking, locking my wheels and skidding, which I could have survived but for the fact that I was too close to him. I clipped his rear wheel and off I went. Lucky for me there was a big bush right by the creek bank, and I landed pretty much right in it. If the bush wouldn't have caught me I would have ended up in the creek, which would have been unpleasant to say the least, as the creek bank was a good 5 feet high at that spot.
I think I'll take today off the bike. ;)

The last time I did something like that was, fortunately, was several years ago, and probably the third of fourth ride with my first set of clipless pedals. During the two or three seconds of air time after I had sort of twisted sideways off the bike and my feet came free, I distinctly remember thinking "Wow, these pedals really do work as advertised". That short time probably would have been better spent thinking about how to hit the pavement with minimal damage, but I guess I was just focussed on hardware at the moment.
Soooo, did you ever find out why the girl looked so pissed off?
