Just won this bad boy! White santa cruz chameleon! Going to rip off those gears, and ss it. Need some imput though, am going to get rid of this fork that comes w/ it... some old school judy. Thinking of a surly 1x1... white or black? What do you think? Other fork options?

Thanks,

Mick

A 100mm Rock Shox fork will have a Axle-Crown height (with sag) of 450-460mm, and the Chamelon has a 70 deg headangle with a 100mm fork.

If you want a faster handling bike you can use a fork equal to an 80mm travelfork with an A-C fork height of 430-435mm, anything shorter than that will be pretty twitchy.

Me thinks a 1X1 fork will be too short. My $.02 (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/FK409C00-Zion+Rigid+Mtn+Fork.aspx)

i use the zion fork, and i love it. only on super long and scary decents have i noticed any jarring while braking, but besides that its nice. really rigid when it needs to be, and flexes just enough to not rattle my teeth out. i love it. oh yeah, and theres tons of clearance for huge tires ( i use 2.35) and you can fit a 29er in there. give it a hoot

If you prefer Surly, or just want to go both ways (http://stores.ebikestop.com/Items/004-fk0005?)

I was just going to suggest the Instigator if you're concerned about the 1x1 fork not being suspension-corrected enough. I don't agree that it'd be too short, but if you agree, the Instigator is a burly and reliable alternative.

You'd want a rigid fork with a length equivalent to a 100 mm boinger, fer shure. I run a 100/120 mm on my Chameleon (used to run it single). at 100 it handles nicely on singletrack and 120 is nice for bombing fire roads and nasty schtuff.

It's a fun singlespeed frame, you'll dig it.

I love my SS Chameleon. Go with a black fork because the white one wouldn't match the pearl white paint... or is that bright silver? Sorry, I am an arteest so things have to coordinate (not as anal as Rocky, though :p).

Congrats

There might be another silver(lunar mist) or white pearl(diamond white pearl metalic) bike soon in this area.

There's nothing wrong with being particular about having the cuffs and collars match on a bike. Or being anal about it. :D Or at least that's what I tell myself... A bicycle is a 2 wheel work of art.

At least a rigid fork is a breeze to paint compared to a boinger.
