Anyone planning a bike vacation this season?
Scotland in August!
I bought my plane ticket today and a (the cheapest I could find online) hotel reservation for 2 nights in center of Edinburg when I first arrive. I'll spend two days checking out the city; museums, etc. From there, I'll take a train up to Stirling where I'll meet a tour company. Meeting a couple of friends there. We'll ride a 7 day sag-supported trip across the country, west coast to east coast. Then I plan on heading down by train from Stirling to the Dumfries region of the country to ride the Stanes (http://www.7stanes.gov.uk/) before returning home.
Just want to see another part of the world. Tired of Latin America right now.
Yeeha!

'S OK, none of us hate you too much. Even what I type here is envious.
Enjoy, and try not to stay forever. It'd be my biggest concern.

I have heard from a friend who has gone to Scotland, that there is some of the best riding out there. Awesome Mims. Is the wife going too with bike in tow? Or does the tour provide bikes?
Another friend of mine went to Spain on a bike tour, said it was awesome. They provided hardtails with semi-slicks as they did a combo of mountain and road.
You will have to take lots and lots of pics and post! Unfortunately for me, I took more pictures of Kangaroos than I did of the riding scenery. Budgie was the official photographer so it seems.:D Plus I didn't carry a digital pocket camera, I didn't want to lug around my Nikon and big ass lens.:D

My wife's Republic of Venezuela passport will be void at the end of June. She's having a difficult time getting her "Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela" passport. Its not a simple process like in the USA. Anyway, right now she is letting me go solo.
For the second part of my trip to the Stanes, looks like renting a car in Edenburgh might be the better option. Only thing is, I've never driven a right hand drive car on the left hand side of the road.

Mizz,
I am envious of your trip down under. I've always wanted to go there. There and Mongolia and Patagonia and...

Sounds like a well-deserved trip, Mimbs!
Just tell me when and I will join you in Patagonia (http://www.exchile.com/seakayak.html)! :)

Wow, quite the choices... I would love to go to Egypt (if we go way back into my family tree there is some roots there). I would also like to go to Portugal. They have bike tours there. My supervisors brother heads the bike tours out there.
I had the opportunity to go to Australia 10 years ago but didn't take my friend up on the offer. I should have gone then. But it was nice to go. No plans on any travel for a long time. The only other trip I will make is Kansas. That ought to be fun.:D

I am heading to Whistler in July (annual event). My wife and sons don't really think of it as a bike vacation, but every morning while they are sleeping I head out and hit the cross country trails. Sounds like it is quite a bit easier to cross the Canadian border than the Venezuelan. I might try to find an old Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker for the crossing back into the states and see if it I end up in the slammer.
