You know how it goes down, your buddy asks you to go riding after work. but there version of coming "right over" after work is showing up at 7:30 at night. So you aren't going for a night ride, but when you finish up its a little darker than you would like. That's where these lights come in really handy.

I have had a set of these lights for a year now. I am really impressed with them. They are great for use on your road or cross bike. The bikes where you may not want to have full time set of lights on it, or just to leave in your camelback for those epic rides, the ones where you bail out of the woods and end up riding the road back to the car as the sun sets and the rain starts.

The interesting feature of the knog lights are their flexible rubber casing, which is used as a clamp to hold them on the bike. They would probably fall off on a serious mtn bike ride, but they'd be fine for commuting/cross riding.

The lights come in a set of two, white and red led models. They have two settings blinking and on, on doesn't make much sense. But the blinking mode grabs attention.

They cost about $20 from REI or your local bike store. PGH Pro has them in stock. I got mine from Boulder Cycle Sport.

Those ones are nice but I have the bullfrog. It had 5 led's and is bad ass. Not quite as sweet as your homemade light though.

I'll second the motion on how nice they are, but I'll make one suggestion. If you do put them in your Camelbak or seatpost bag, try to keep them from moving around, or not where they can bump into something and turn on accidently. There has been many a few nights when I thought I was safe, only to find out that the batteries were dead. And @ $8 a light, it has gotten kind of expensive. So I have been either keeping them on a bike, or keeping them wrapped up in a bandana, and I haven't gotten that bad suprise of no light.

I like the Frogs and the Toads, even on the MTB. The Frogs are better for "being seen" while the Toad puts out enough candlepower to light up trails -- but nothing like a NiteRider or similar big-battery device.
I, too, keep a couple in the Bak for unexpected darkness. The little watch/hearing aid batteries are replaceable, but unless there's a watch shop right off the trail, you'll be in a pinch.
At a 12-hour race a few years ago, my light system failed and I finished a night lap with two KnogFrogs on my handlebar. It wasn't pretty or fast, but I made it back to the crew tent.

The Knog's are Good lights. I like the Guppy's by Saris a bit more, due to their LED's being brighter, and while they would tend to turn more over bumpy terrain to to a black elastic cord vs. a rubber loop, I like the cord's abilty to convert the light so it can dangle off a messenger bag or back pack. I would still only consider the Guppy or the Frog as blinkies as they are not for serious illumination of riding surfaces. One other note is the Serfas lights packaging was much more eco-friendly and not a plastic monstronsity in which the Knogs came...

Those Guppy's look a whole lot like these lights from MEC - http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=8 45524442621218&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302692895&bmUID=1183746597673

with a price that's lower than a latte, they certainly are good value.

Probably the same light. Most of these are thought up and designed in Asia and then "distributed" by other companies. I saw another company's light that looked exactly like the Frog but had a brigher LED and one more blinky function.....an improvement by the Asian factory.;)
