I am a leadville veteran and I am looking for a new challenge........has anyone heard of a long distance singletrack mtb race?......something like leadville but more of a mountain bike race.....

Longer than 100 miles? TransRockies? TransAlps? Crocodile Trophy Race?

You mean like a 12/24 hour race? There's plently of distance riding on singletrack there.
The Ouchita Challenge in South Central Arkansas is 60 miles of predominantly singletrack through the Ouchita mountains and the WOMBLE (IMBA Epic) trail.
There's also the Iditabike (sp) in Alaska.
There is a race from Fruita to Moab every year along the Kokapelli (sp) trail.
There's the Chamaquan (sp) Fat Tire Festival every fall in Wisconsin.
There's the Iceman Cometh every year in Michigan.
In addition, you could just pick a 100+ mile trail and throw an informal race yourself. There's the Mah Dah Hay Trail in N. Dakota, for example.

Check out Dirt Rag #93.
On page 50, we list all of the epic races/rides we know of.
Personally, I suggest the Wilderness 101 in State College, PA coming up on July 26-27
Also, check out the Shenandoah 100 in Sept. Both of these races have more info at

If you want the brutal challenge, head down to Costa Rica for La Ruta de los Conquistadores.
Hope this helps, and don't hesitate to ask again...

I believe this is the first year for this one. I don't know how much of it is single track as the course is at Durango Mountain Resort (formerly Purgatory ski area). I did read the course description and it sounded brutal to me (over 11,000 feet of climbing!). I think the race is in August.
Check it out:

That's over 17,000' of climbing--not 11,000'--I just checked. And it sounds like most of the course is over fire roads with some singletrack, but they claim no pavement!

I can tell you that any distance on fireroad or pavement can be cut in half in comparsion to singletrack......as a leadville finisher I can attest to that....if that race was singletrack it would kill you......thanks for the info...and take care
