Well,

Thanks to Myron and my boys down at River Market Cyclery in KC, my Santa Cruz Chameleon is complete. Totally tricked out SS. Built a Rhino Lite SS wheel w/ a Surly hub, Salsa chain ring (32-18 ratio) w/ race face cranks. She's gonna be the fastest thing in Lawrence!!

Congrats! Lookin' good. I have been considering going rigid on my Chameleon.

I see you shop-vacked the 18" of rain up that we've had this past week so she has a nice dry place to sleep until the trails dry out again. ;)

Looks great! Are you running 2.3 tires? It's kinda hard to tell from the photo.

Yeah,

Maxxis High Rollers - 2.35's or something like that. Looks like they have a real aggressive tread. Psyched about getting them out on the trail. Too bad it has rained here for the past 5 days and we won't be able to ride until next week...

Had her out on some really single track this afternoon. Pretty sweet. I cannot believe how manueverable and light she is. Unreal. At the start of this trail, the local municipality has piled a few tons of fresh mulch in piles. Sorta like moguls the way they were set up. Super sweet flying up one and down another.

Still getting a weird creak in the bb area.... seriously considering selling some old components are just getting a new bb and crank set.

I know this could be seen as blasphemy but maybe you ought to have a local shop take a look at it?

I probably should. I am more or less sure I have isolated the noise to the BB region... there seems to be alot of dirt wedged between the crank and the bb. Lots of red dirt - like the guy had her in moab or something. Can anyone recommend a decent BB?

Congrats on the new ride. Where did you find dry trails, this weather is killing me.

Not really trails per se, some hiking trails at the dog park at Shawnee Mission Park. Nothing spectular, nor very long - about a mile loop - but it was the best I've ridden in almost 2 weeks.

My RF Deus Bottom Brackets died horrible deaths in quick succession... Finally ditched the crankset and installed Truvativ Stylo external BB and crankset on the 1x1. ~ 50 hours or so on it with no issues. The XT BB on my Walt has made it ~ 7 months with no issues so far, plenty of nasty riding on it as well. Personally I really like the Shimano design with the two pinch bolts over the one big fixing bolt and extractor of most setups. Ideally the UN72 square taper BB would still be in abundance but onward and upward right? BTW - have you pulled everything apart and cleaned and regreased it all? That alone solves a lot of creaky BB issues. If you go for the external setup be sure to have the BB shell faced.
