Been there; done that. Usually not a good idea to burn your bridges. Of course I've burned one or two in my time, and have never enjoyed a fire more.:D

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

As Dave said, don't burn bridges. You need to leave on a positive note. I left a job about 7 years ago and am still a good friend of my old boss. He still throws me the employee discount. I left because it was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. He did hire me back when I returned to school to earn my teaching certification. He even paid my health insurance. Do you have a plan for what is next? Honestly, you need to have something else because you are more important than your boss or the job. That said. There is something many people forget. We are all easy to replace. You probably have been an awesome employee, but the next person will be just as good if not better. That is a hard pill to swallow. So, just go in, be honest and friendly. Thank your boss for the opportunities. Do not go in swinging and yacking about how it sucked and how everything was messed up. That is my two cents.

Oh yeah. Worked in Oil and Gas and just got sick of it. You know, just started driving to work, flipped out, in a way, and kept driving. Turned off my cell and went and grabbed my bike and drove out to the mountains.

Had a list of messages on my phone, 9 days later when I bothered to check them. Was told I'd have to come into the office and discuss things, and I called back and said that I was done.

Had no plan. No savings. Nothing.

One of my better decisions. Now, a year later I'm doing exactly what I want, making a hell of a lot less money, saving more (as in some), and am way, way more happy.

Well,

I tried to be a nice guy here - went in to talk to my boss - he totally flipped out and starts screaming at me. I then walked out of his office. Insane. Not how I wanted to leave things after 5 years, but what are you going to do? Guess it just reassures me that I am making the right call here.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Mick

Sorry to hear that it went that way. But, you are the better person. I imagine that sooner or later he is going to feel like a total ass (sounds like he is one.) Yeah, I know this flies against the values of earlier generations to some extent. But, you have to do what makes you feel good in a spiritual way (not talking religion). I love my job now and also consider quitting my last career as the best move of my life. I am taking a new teaching job at the end of the summer. I will be living nearer to some of my favorite trails, making a 33% increase in pay, and I just bought my first home. Now if I can find that bike gal that fills my dreams! You are ultimately in charge of your own destiny even if you can't control the rest of the world. Mission sounds like you are on a mission to regain control. You have made the big step. Keep us posted. Adventures big or small make life better.

Why on earth did he flip out? There's got to be more to the story...
