OK, so I'm generally not someone who crashes frequently, but in the last month I have crashed twice. Once with three stitches in my hand (dirt), and once last week, avoiding a pedestrian (my fault) with some pretty deep road rash. So I guess what I'm getting at is, how do the people at work react when you come in banged up, again  . I've been asked why I don't just drive, told I shouldn't ride my bike, been accused of being drunk at the time (wasn't, was leaving work when it happened), and someone even told me I was going to get MRSA if I didn't stop crashing! Anyone else?

When I was hit riding in everyone was pretty good about it (I was late that day), no asinine comments or anything like that. However, when I've gotten banged up on a dawn patrol MTB ride there has been no sympathy. Once I nailed a tree and had some neck/shoulder issue for a while afterwards (I could barely hold my head up for a few days). I also threw my back out of whack one morning and came in pretty late as a result. No one cut me any slack but at least the ribbing was of the good natured variety. BTW - what does MRSA mean?

They all laugh at me. The folks I work with are used to it. They know, I'm going to show up at least twice a year with a black eye, road rash, or a cast.

Sorry, jargon. MRSA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methicillin-resistant_Staphylococcus_aureus) is a a form of a bacteria that lives on everyone's skin, but happens to be resistant to the drug that is normally used to kill it. So, if you get an infection, its a pain in the ass to get rid of. Working on the floor of a hospital it wouldn't be super hard to get a large patch of road rash exposed, so I have the nurses dress my wound :p

(knocking on wooden head as I type this) I have never been hurt on the way to work, but any injuries sustained on the bike have been laughed at by most of my coworkers. When I missed a day of work a couple of years ago from a crash that f*d up my shoulder, back, arms, and gave me a nice 9 or 10 stitch Franken-scar on my forehead, most of my coworkers found that pretty damn funny. A lot of people don't seem to understand the appeal in riding; they just think "what if you get hurt?" (Answer: you probably will get hurt, but lots of people get hurt or killed in car crashes, and no one seems to question that whole driving thing, and riding is a lot more fun than gridlock)

I am not able to commute by bike, so I don't have the same type of experiences. However, more than once I have been told at work that it is time to get a haircut because my hair reflects the inside pattern of my helmet. Three smallish Mohawk peaks. The things that we put up with. my non-commuting injuries have not impacted work as yet.

...Three smallish Mohawk peaks...

Ahhh, the tri-hawk. :) I've always loved it.

the best was the time i was going around a corner that was shaded by some kind of berry tree, all the berries had fallen on to the road, and begun to bake in the morning sun (what i'm trying to say is they were rotten or close to it) anyways as i was going around the turn the back wheel slide out from underneath me leaving me to slide across the berries smashing them on my shirt, and pants and myself as well and leaving delightful patches of road rash on my fore arm and side of my thigh, Not only did i look like i had tried to make wine by rolling around in the grapes, i smelled like a trash can too! Everyone thought it was funny though, i worked in a bike shop at the time.

i dunno yet, haven't gotten hurt on the way in yet.i imagine it'll be heck tho, considerin that i have the same heated argument with the same tubby-sorry butt guy every time i ride about how stupid it is to ride a bike when i own 2 vehicles...it was cool that one mornin i passed right by when his 3/4 ton truck (that he only uses to haul his big rear end around) ran outta gas (well,diesel).....that was freakin cool, and he didn't wanna argue THAT day:rolleyes:
