Hey Dirt Raggers,
Whats up with the endless valley? The guy with the junkyard by the tunnels has it blocked off again. This seems to happen every year or so. Is the guy friendly or not? There are no signs, just a few large logs across the trail. I know there has been some vandalism done on some on his stuff in the past, has it happened again? Since yinz are local, I thought you might know. Thanks.

I've stopped a number of times, talked to the guy and he is friendly. I always thought we were welcome, he even said so. Hope nothing bad has happened to change his mind.

That's funny, I always assumed he was unfriendly, but for no good reason. I suppose I just thought he was crazy because he's always up there buzzdozing all day long to no avail. Anyhow, we should go ride out there and see what's up...

Yeah, it's strange, it seems like it's heavy equipment practice time there. Dirt piles get moved around, but it never really changes. That's a pretty important piece of trail in our local network, so we sure don't want the guy mad at us. In a couple of weeks, the obstacles may be moved, and it will be back to the usual.

Well, we talked to the guy on Saturday, as he was blockading the tunnel end of his property with his now-windowless front end loader. Seems he's been allowing trail access for 30 years, but recent vandalism (We listened for 10 minutes to the laundry list of destruction) is the motivating factor for the current closeur. Needless to say, he says if he catches anyone down there they're going to get cited.
On the other hand, he understands that motorcycles WILL find a way around any blockades, and is expecting them to do so. I suggest we follow the dirt bikes and create another trail around the other side of the creek.
If you see the guy, stop and talk. Sympathize. Apologise for the assholes who did the damage. Listen. Say thanks for having us all these years. Then follow a trail around the back.

What is wrong with some people? All those years of being allowed through there, and someone has to bust up this guys stuff again. I will make it a point to talk to the land owner if I see him there, I've just never run into him. I'm sure a trail will be made around his area, but the whole thing just sucks. Thanks for finding out for us.

Thanks,

Endless valley was a nice, two or three mile section of trail out here in Fox Chapel/Indianola. Exact location isn't really important being that its now closed... But it was part of a more extensive trail network that is hard to describe without riding it...

Closed? I'm planning on continuing to ride it, going around the closed area. The trail is two miles long and starts in a driveway just north of the corner of Saxonburg Blvd and Dorseyville Road. The trail goed through two tunnels after the closed property and ends in Emmerling park. it's part of the Punk Bike Enduro loop.

There's so many different rides to hook up there, you don't even need to go through Dude's property. In fact the first few times I did those trails I never even went through there because I hit the oil well instead.
Although, it is nice to have Endless for the ride home, specially in the sunshine - it's so nice to have places like this without offices/condos/restaurants built on them, yet they are right in our back yard.
When people in Pittsburgh say that there's nothing to do for fun I start cracking up. With that attitude, I guess they'll keep on believing that. The best part is that there are so many natural areas literally on the outskirts of the city.
Hey GORIDE, I didn't know that your cousin was Joe P., I went to grade school with him and he grew up in my neighborhood.
