Could this be Fantasy Land? No, just Amsterdam…Props to Baltimore Spokes and Eric the guy who spent the 73 minutes there.

I dig the all red bike and “hitchers”…reminded me of going to school in New Jersey!

That's cool as shit.
Reminds me of when I was a kid. Used to have a friend on the back of the banana seat and one on the handle bars. Nice post.

The links you provided made me think of something ... dynamo-powered headlamps are not very bright. Has anyone modified one to use a super-bright LED? It would seem with people doing it to mag lights and such for ten-odd years that they could do it to bike-powered lights as well. So, has anyone built on, know how to build one, or know where to buy one? .... Bueller? .... Chris?

an average 10 watt halogen is about 30 lumens. Mr superbright up there ^ is 56 lumens. kickass. expect to pay an arm and a leg (comparatively, might be only $25), and it's surface mount for heat dissipation. Only requires 700mA, max voltage is 4v so you'll need a voltage drop as well. Easy enough to do with a 3W 2 ohm resistor if you don't mind 1/3 of your energy going into heat (or a voltage regulator if you do mind. you should mind, you might need the extra power if the dynamo can't put out the full 700mA (500mA at 6v is 250mA at 4v not including regulator losses)). Viewing angle is 100 degrees, throw that inside a reflector for some more forward viewing ownage. That thing is better than what goes in the Nighthawk emitter series. The thing the nighthawk emitter has on you is a lens engineered to focus the unique light pattern of an LED.

can't find price info, they're a "talk to us if you're interested" company.

On second thought, my nighthawk emitter runs off of 4 AA batteries for about 10 hours. Competes with a 5W halogen I think...maybe more because it's a tight focused beam. That's 6V right there. A shimano dymano hub might power one of those guys just fine. I've converted mine to helmet mount, doesn't take much to wire a cable with a new jack to fit the helmet end of the thing.

I must say, it is amazing to see all the bikes in europe in general. my 2nd weekend here in germany i took a trip to maastricht, holland/netherlands and at the various train stations it was amazing how many bikes there were. It made me wish mine was here, but i'll get it soon enough and i can't wait to go for my first ride in Europe! :D
