Ahhh…..You boys missed the point.
It's a question of "Active" versus "Passive". When you "ride" in a car or on a bus, it is a passive in that you are not required to do anything but sit there. "Driving" a car, a bus both require a great deal of mental and physical activity....like being on a bike, it's anything but passive.
So, let's try this again.....

Trying to make sense of the English language is a waste of time. Go ride your bike, drive your car and quit spinning your wheels.
I've noticed some motorcyclists will say they "drive" their motorcycles. Strikes me as strange...
