Anybody know where I can get a shim or adapter to make a 31.8 XT front derailleur fit a 28.6 seat tube? This is for my geared bike, BTW, so no need for salty comments on the KySingleSpeed handle ;)

I needed to do this and ended up just using some pieces of rubber I had lying around in the toolbox. I actually think they were from a clip on light I had. I though it might slip, but it has been on there for two years with no problems.

It is the common belief here in Louisville that all of you single speed guys are Devil worshippers.... Any truth to that?

I have a single speed. Or should I say... it has me...

I think you are the (jersey) devil

I do wonder two things. Are your knees sore and on hills do you walk up a lot?

No, my knees do not get sore. Maybe I'm lucky, because I do hear a lot of SSers that have bad knees after a while. Proper bike fit helps, as well as technique.
Hills... sometimes that dreaded gravity thing going up an incline gets the better of me, but 90% of the time I'm fine. I usually try to keep my speed up and move my body around a lot to get myself over obstacles instead of just pedaling over them. Every little bit helps. If I am forced into a stall, I pop off my bike and run it up cyclocross style.
All hail the single chainring!

Amen! And the single cog, too.

Anyone know where I can find a sacrificial chicken?

There's no devil in me. Maybe a little devil on my shoulder who, when I wonder should I buy another $100 part I really don't need, says "yeah yeah yeah, buy it, you'll like it."

I'm fresh out of chickens, but all the hip, young devil worshipping single speeders are sacraficing pygmy goats this year. It's huge in Milan. I have two of the goats, I'll trade them even for a set of Redline Flite cranks and a Howard's Schwinn T-Shirt (Bowling Green KY).
