Been looking at a Van dessel country road bob as it seems good for what I want. A guy I ride with occassionally has one, of a wrong size though, which I like but since there ins't a van dessel dealer in the area or even the state for that matter, I have been hesitant to buy one. Was just at a specialized dealer who showed me in his catalog a new tricross singlecross which seems real similiar to the road bob. It is also cheaper at $800 and the dealer said he could probably get it to me for $775 taxees included which is about $150 cheaper than I could get the bob for. It has some weird looking front fork. dont know what is up with that. the picture made the bike look a bit bulky and heavy but with a skinny top tube. tires seem kind of crappy too for a $800 dollar bike. hard to make decisions on a picture alone though. anyway I know the singlecross is new but any one have an opinion on it that may have seen one in person.

Ever consider the surly cross-check?

I had one for a while and I miss it. I liked it as much as considerably more expensive frames.

Don't forget the On One Il Pompino! Great bike if you can find one. They have a really nice compact geometry and are great on and off road.

Looking for a aluminum frame/carbon fork, single speed bike with drop bars that will take good size cross tires. I know it may wig some people out but I don't want a steel bike. That's why I'm interested in the County Road Bob and the Tricross single. If it takes fenders easy, thats a plus but not a necessity. Also needs to come in at under $1000, hopefully less than $800 which is why the Tricross single is on the short list.

Alright, so it is steel, but for less than $600, its a steal :p How about the Bianchi San Jose (http://www.bianchiusa.com/06_san_jose.html)?

Nice looking bike there, but don't want it. Besides, no dealers in my area. Just interested in information on the Specialized.

Cool. No problem, but out of curiosity, why do you want aluminum?

I already have a steel ss road bike I made from an old double butted lugged framed Fuji. I have a steel ss mountain bike, a REdline monocog (sorry folks, I went with the 26" wheels). I have a steel geared road bike. For my crosstype bike I want something different so aluminum and carbon fiber it is.
