The 5th annual North American Handmade Bicycle Show could share a home with Dirt Rag Magazine. The show started out in Texas, spent two years in San Jose, and will be in Portland for 2008.
But 2009 in Pittsburgh? Yes, it could happen, and it would be awesome! Don Walker was in town over the weekend scoping it out, and I have to say I think we offer an ideal location for such an event, even if it will be February or March! Wish us luck!

Excellent!

As a fellow Pittsburgher I'm curious which venues would be suitable for an event like this or is that some top secret stuff?

Between me and you and the coffee table we all know that Pittsburgh offers an amazing climate in February and March.

Expo Mart in Monroeville or downtown at the David Lawrence Convention Center. Don sez the show needs to be early in the season before the builders get too busy.

I may be biased  , but I think a Pittsburgh NAHMBS would be a smashing success. It's a great town, and within driving distance of east coast, midwest and southeast folks.

And, with the world's premier mountain bike publication right in town, imagine the coverage the show would get!!!!;)

It's got my vote! I'd make the trip from Fredrock, MD for sure.

Sorry, but what would Pittsburgh have to do with steel bike frames? ;)

Makes sense to me, although a more central location would be nice.

How about Indianapolis? That is the official plan for 2009, as announced last Sunday.

Maybe Don's working his way East. We can only hope.

Although... if it were in the Burgh, we'd get a ton of people calling up for a place to crash. That might not be bad, though. Party at DRHQ!

Is it (anymore)? Having grown up nearbye, and having had neighbors that were card-carrying members of the steel workers union, I truly wonder what impact the steel industry maintains? Sure there is the legacy of US Steel, Jones & Laughlin, and their associated coke works, but even the mighty Chiodo's Bar hasn't survived the downdfall.

I long for the power that once was McKeesport, Steel Valley HS, and the Edgar Thompson works. I do not, however miss their environmental legacy. Pity USS couldn't have seen fit to re-engineer their production technologies and implement them in SW PA.

Sarcastic, yea.
Coming back to look at this thread after so long, I want to slap my own wrist for not getting that in the first place, then name-calling.
