Anyone try one of these SE Racing Draft SS's? I know they're heavy and only hi-ten steel but for $250 for a complete build I wonder . . .

The SE stuff is certainly afforadble, but I wonder if the money isn't better spent on a used bike, or another bike for that matter. For example, the Stout, the 29er SS, is about $500. So is the Monocog 29er. Hmmm

But anyway, if you're looking for a new, affordable bike, its worth a look.

Talk to the friend with the SE Draft. He still loves it and wants to give me a sixer to retension the wheels. Can't go wrong. Once I give the bike a once-over I'll give you a more informed opinion.

Ashtabula would be the deal-breaker for me. I would not even think of riding fixed without my clipless pedals.

But if you're looking for a cheap singlespeed, or if you don't mind clips and straps, I don't think you'd go too far wrong with the draft.

I've assembled a couple and have them on the sales floor, I have yet to HAVE to show one. The one piece crank, super cheap wheels, and a full steel parts kit are sub-Schwinn Continental in nature. Your money would be better spent on the next step up, Lager, or a used bike. Hell, buy one of those Wal-Mart roadbikes and single it and you'd have something better for less.

So I rode it tonight ... granted I was drunk and at a bar, but ...

So anyway, the wheels rolled true, the bearings spun smooth, it steered straight, the brakes worked. Personally, for $250, I would build my own bike, but if I couldn't, and didn't have the money to buy better, it seems like a reliable piece of transportation that you can work on yourself.

It put a smile on my face :D
