So my normal freewheel removal tool (which doubles nicely as a bludgeon) won't fit over the oval axle/hub thingy on the ENO Eccentric. Do I need a special tool or is there another way to remove a freewheel from this hub?

A $25 tool that's listed on the W.I. website

I use a standard 4-prong Shimano FW tool. There is a hex bolt holding the axle in place. Just remove that bolt and remove that side of the axle. Then the standard tool will work.
When you replace the axle piece, do not over-tighten it.
