Rice and beans, pasta, big old potabella sandwhich, bean chili with ground meatless, veggie lasanga.

If this still leaves you wanting get some protien powder and make a smothie.

Good Luck I know the feeling.

You said you're not having much luck with pre- and post-ride food, but didn't give details on what specific problems you are having. With more specific information, I could give more specific suggestions, but let me start in general...

- For rides up to an hour, eating ANYTHING 1-2 hours before a ride should get you through. Complex carbs are a good bet for these shorter rides---oatmeal is a personal favorite of mine. Dont' sweat it: eat, digest, ride, stop.

- For longer rides you'll burn through your muscles' easily accessible reserve of glycogen, so a strategy to replace glycogen during the ride is needed. Supplements (I use Accelerade) are an easy answer, buy many contain whey protien (diary) which you can avoid if you read the labels and select carefully. Another tip is to eat a heartier breakfast, I love the smell of rice and beans in the morning, but you'll still need to replace your energy as you ride. If you don't like supplements, carry some "real food" on the ride and eat every hour (as mentioned PB&J is tried and true, energy bars are an obvious choice).

- After the ride a key is to eat as soon as possible. Here again, supplements (e.g., Endurox or "protein power mix" from the healt food store) work well. If you want to avoid high-tech powders, blend up a fresh fruit smoothie. Drink plenty of fluids too, it's hard to keep up with fluid loss while riding, no matter how hard you try. After you stretch, eat a regular meal--I"m all for sticking with your normal diet as much as possible.

Hope this helps,

Thanx Sub guy! After talking to a fellow rider I'm thinking it's got to be the during ride glycogen deal(like those technical terms). After not riding at all last year I'm pushing myself pretty hard to keep up. I also neglected to mention that I have fibromyalgia and arthritis could be that I'm not gonna be able to fight it but I'm sure as hell gonna try!!
Thanx to all for the suggestions I'll gladly give them all a shot!

Anyone with RA or FMS have anything to add I'd love to hear it , Thanx . :)
