An ounce of fenders is worth a pound of cleaning.

Seriously.

I am thinking with the rain and sand that a parafin based lube might be the best thing for your chain. Whatever you do, don't use WD40 or you will be lugging around too much extra grime. I use this stuff

see, the dust out here is super fine. it has lovingly been named 'moon dust'. and what really sucks about the whole deal is that it is constantly blowing, being kicked up by humvees and 7-tons, and boring into my face by sandstorms.

so i figure that i probably need to grease/lube my baby a little more often than i do back home (a nice way to say i have never lubed a bike).

so, what im looking for is maybe some good lube to use, intervals to use it, so on and so forth. i have a chain lube that the dude who sold the give gave me (not wd-40 btw).

thanks kiddies for helpin' out a fattie

try cleaning the entire bike with blue dawn dishsoap and finnish with a rub of bike lust, an excellent product. After all is done all you need to do is lube the chain and pulleys. I only use white lightening and white lightening epic. Both are wax/cleaner based and are easy on the chain and do not grab dirt like an oil base.

Hey buddy we respect what yer doin there. Keep riding.

Mr. Tits, THANK YOU for your service!

To clarify a bit, a wax based lube (like the White Lightning) is probably a good idea in the "moon dust" of Iraq. If you can't find that a "dry" lube is what you need in your conditions, but avoid the "extra dry" types as they don't relly seem to lube much of anything. Try to find a cycle specific lube.
