One of my favorite riding bikes. Very versatile with lots of bang for the buck. As to the weight: I've got a solid parts build on it and it's not a tank. You can make a light build if you want, just depends on how many chi-chi parts you want to hang on it.

I'll second that. Mine's a 20" and weighs in at just over 23 lbs. Not superlight, but it's steel. I do 90% of my off road riding on this bike and I really have no complaints.
Rides exactly like a bike. It's that good, really. I love the 1x1, it's the most neutral handling and comfortable 26" bike I've ridden in a long time. Mine now sees more ride time than my Karate Monkey and has me leaning toward selling the KM. I really only need one SS mtb anyway.

Hmmm....I love my 1x1 but it's too small for me. Got it used to try SS. I ordered a 29 Monocog Flight. Why the 1x1 over the KM?
Davka has a point about the Monocog. I'm saving a few hundred over the KM. The Surly is not an American bike. You might be paying extra for the Surly image.

its still cheap compared to other non american made bikes.
and not to jack the thread, but if your gonna talk american take all your shimano off and go sram on your geared equip. chicago pride baby. sorry. pet peeve.

My only point is that if an American bike was say 25% more $, that might make it worth it.
I own a Vicious and paid 5-8 hundred more than I would have for a normal non-american bike. I run xo gripshifters w/ an xo rear derailer.

I was thinking about a KM. The guy who sold me the 1x1 told me that he got rid of it to buy a KM and that for the $ I should really consider the Monocog 29er.
1x1 is a killer bike, I have my first year version and will never sell it. I did however sell my KM, 29ers are gay.;)

My 1x1 is actually a Rat Ride. 1 year pre-Surly.
I better get up to the 29 forum to feel better about the bike I ordered:(
You'd think reading that LOOOOONG article in the Rag about the 29 phenom would have me pumped up. Maybe it was tooooo looooong:confused:

I was so rattled by the anti-29 talk that I gave hime a pass on the slur. Where the phuck are the mods when this shit happens:eek:
Anyway, all pc bs aside,I really don't want to be thought of as 'gay' because I'm riding a 29er.
But this made me feel better about the Monocog I ordered.

And my wife won't let me liquidate the Rat Ride 1x1. Go figure.

I had the exact bike, 17 inch model.
I would still have it, but owed a buddy.
I know you will love the bike. In fact,
you will throw rocks at your other bikes
after you throw a leg over the flight.
If 29ers are gay.. I'm beyond flambuoyant.
think "The Birdcage".
Gay as a slur? hell it is part of the modern dialect........see that smiley? the wink one? Yeah, I knew I might spark a little rise but you guys are off the chart..............................! If anyone cares to look at my post history or my background, you wil see I have been on 700c MTBs for about a decade give or take.
THAT POST WAS SARCASM. Hence the smiley.
I do think 29ers are not the silver bullet, even after riding em for many years.........anyone wnat some NOS Smoke 700x45s? Need to clean some shit out.

I'm sold on the 29er. I road mr. myron's at the 24 hrs of landahl when my bike died.... was awesome. I highly recommend the misfit dissent. I thought it looked totally nerdy and really had no interest in it, until I had it on the trail. Handles unreal and can climb like a mofo.

Just my $0.02 on the big wheels issue; having only ridden the budgies' too big for me Dissey for 200 meters around the schoolyard across the road from his digs prior to the acquisition of my very own Misfit(name kinda suits me,don't it!!) I spoke these words to Mr.Nogglington shortly after beating myself to a pulp in the ChicoRacing Fall 8Hr Epic....I am never racing 26" wheels cross country for as long as my arse points to the ground!! I can honestly say all that those with bike and literary skills have written about the benefits of bigger wheels is 100% true!!!...only issue I had on that day was a couple of scrapes by some trees while cornering..easily fixed by slight riding style adjustment..(and maybe slowing down a bit thru the corners??).a small price to pay for total experience enjoyment ,don't ya think?...
