What type of helmet do you wear for off road riding? I've been using a Giro Xen for a few years and was looking to get something different and wanted to see what others liked.

Whatever happens to be on sale and in the $50-75 range from Nashbar.
I'm on my second Giro e2 for mountain, a Bell carbon-looking something for road and a Harley-Davidson half shell for throttle-twisting.

Crazy! Those are the same as I use!
Just picked up a Bell Variant for commuting and messing around. Too bad they discontinued the X-Ray. :(

fox flux in the super sweet black camo...
i use it for commuting and i have strapped 6 little flashing LEDs on there. set them up like aircraft/boat running lights...you know red, green, and white....helps folks see the fat man and know which direction im going.
Bell and Azonic surround sound, nice to hear tunes and cars at the same time.

I knew you were being funny!
I thought it was funny, too.
I just figured considering your profession, that you might not want to even look at the road while you're riding a bike. :D
ps, those mad faces were another lame attempt at me being funny. ;)
back on topic: I used to love my Giro E2 but my wife drove over it (sans head in it)... I have found that I now prefer a visorless helmet for all riding. Not sure why.

Not sure why. That would be very steenkin' roadie of you. Visors are the only thing that prevent helmets from looking like you have an ostrich egg or water melon busted over your head.

I found that in the early 90's Bell helmets were The Shit, but they since have changed their sizing, now they don't conform to my Germanic Heritage:) But I found the Giro E2 fit like a glove until I crashed on it and ripped the strap out of the back of it:( now i use a Giro Atlas-1/3 the price of the E2 but the same fit:D
I ride with a Giro E2 without the visor (easily removed).
Why is it that road helmets have no visor when the riders are usually exposed to the sun and MTB helmets whose wearers are likely under a canopy most of the time get visors??? Inquireing minds want to know! :D

Last helmet: Giro Monza
Current helmet: Giro Xen (sometimes I take the visor off)

...then they'd have no reason to wear cycling caps.
Sunscreen and sunglasses, though I prefer riding when when it is cloudy. The only time I feel like I'm using my visor is when it is raining.

for all mountain I use my Giro Zen and any hot weather/lightweight I use my Giro Pneumo with the carbon inlays. It is a cool running lid.
The Zen catches all sweat better than any other lid I have owned but it's heavy.

A 2-year old Bell something for $35.00 or so. Seems to work. Vents okay and fits very well with that new fangled adjustable head band doohicky. Just turn the adjustment wheel and presto! :)

I wear a Zen as well. Best helmet I've ever worn. Good coverage in back
