I'm curious to see if anyone else out there is experimenting with strange set-ups. I posted a picture of my commuter in the Commuting post, but people are being to lame to post theirs. Here is what I'm riding, and it is really working out nicely for a 7 to 8 mile ride to work. It's an '06 Trek Rail 3, with a 3spd Nexus, Mary bars, upgraded headset, Truvativ Team Seatpost, Truvativ Stem, My favorite Specialized Rival Ti seat (measured to my butt), and flames. Let me know what you guys think.

I would not call it strange. It looks great! So much so that I bet it's a thug magnet. I hope that you lock the bejesus out of it. I like the pretend fenders - only in Arizona. Nice ride!

I think you have the artist misconception for a diSSent Cruiser product intro. And a big wheel cruiser would be a nice option. They could sell a few of those at Duke's.

we believe you. so defensive. are you hiding baloons in your alpacas? have you kidnapped longhaultrucker in hopes that he can build you a wheeled fortress? what are your intentions? have you built my wheels yet? are you the ultimate warrior and whats wrong with your arms?

ok, itll be a few day till i get my camera back from the GF, but wait till you see bio-pace wheeled bike. its a blast.

that and were making a bike with the derailiers hooked up the the brake levers, and the brake calipers hooked up to the shifters. itll be a good fun bike for the group rides.

and then theres frankenbike, an old schwinn
that used to fit 26x1-38 tires. now it fits mtn tires with the help of the frame stretched sideways and tons of gussets, and yes its SS, oh yea, coaster brake too!

Lee Klevens won the Punk Bike Enduro on this homemade chopper. Now that's cool:

Karl,

I'm curious who was following Lee in this picture! I know I sure would have had all eyes on the chopper but it looks like the eyeballs were all trained on the rider coming next. You have pics of that??

It's fine at all speeds from barely crawling to 80 (haven't gone faster than that). At very slow speeds, like maneuvering around in a parking lot, it has some wobble, but anything over 10mph it's fine. It's easy to forget it's on there, have to be careful when I buy gas.

Here is a picture of the Rail after this weekend. I put some Cafe bars on it, a Stylo GXP that I had laying around, painted the wheels and fenders gunmetal metallic (to match the frame)... Oh yeah I also got some sweet grips from Electra that act just like my motorcycles' grip. The whole grip replaces the half grip on the nexus, so the entire right grip twists and shifts. It's fun... (Especially if you make engine noises!)

A Brooks is on the way!

The vultures were circling the massive mud puddle that Leroy just skirted. Many riders decided to attempt riding into it. Made for good viewing. I got lotsa pictures of the carnage in this gallery (http://www.dirtragmag.com/gal/showgallery.php?cat=634).

Chri$t, whatta mudhole...was the name of a swimming hole near a friends camp up in Clarion county. It sometimes looked similar to the one pictured at Punkbike.

Yeah, the motorcycle ruts keep getting deeper and deeper. Plus, there's rumors that certain parties get out the shovels every year and dig it a little deeper for the first weekend in December. :D

Don't try to ride this one with the motor running... but it is a handy way to get downed trees three miles back on a trail.

What would happen if the chainsaw could run a 3/32"x 1/2" chain, and you took a chain tool along... hmmmm. A commuter conversion.

Not to mention the hostile dog handling possibilities...

Not to mention the hostile dog handling possibilities...I've often thought that chainsaw chain would make a killer SS setup, especially for log crossings. And it could double as a trail maintenance device when needed.

do it. this is the thread for it!

rockyrider

Chainsaw chain is 0.325", 0.375" and 0.404" pitch, you'd need some custom chainrings/cogs. And some full leg armour for your right leg.

It's also driven differently, but hey, if someone is making a belt drive single speed, a chainsaw chain SS ain't impossible, just difficult.

I know it's doesn't go anywhere, but I think it still falls under the title of the thread.

here is the bio-pace bike as we call it here. A-town built the wheels, no spoke calculater on this bad boy! we put the super short crank arms on it so they dont hit they ground.....as much.....its most fun to ride not pedaling and just pumping it around.

This is Frankenbike. he started life as a old schwinn 26x1-3/8 city bike. now he's a singlespeed coaster brake rear v-brake front mod thing. we had my dad stretch out the frame to fit real tires, and weld on gussets EVERYWHERE. this bike is heavy. 3/16ths chain and all. this is a true monster. im plaing on doing a race on it next year.
