I'm moving again, back to Pittsburgh from Williamsport PA. I'll need at least two trips in my car to move my crap. What I'm thinking of doing is making one trip, bring back a friend from Pittsburgh and have him drive my car out the second time, leaving me behind to ride out, taking 2-4 days to get there. It is around 200 miles on the highway, probably more on backroads.

I'm trying to figure out a non-highway route. I should be able to get to Altoona with few problems, but after that I'm lost.

Can anybody out there help me out?

Thanks

I'm leaving in the first couple of weeks in August.

What side of Pittsburgh are you moving to?

Where to you plan to stay during your tour?

I've ridden 36 out west out of Altoona, up the 'Buckhorn', which is a climb up the Allegheny Mountains leading ridge. To 553 to Penn Run, then some back roads to Indiana, PA. Traffic isn't that bad. Last year, I road from Spruce Creek to Indiana, PA in probably 8 hours.

From Indiana, one choice is 286, but it isn't preferred, there is coal truck traffic on 286. Fortunately, there are some "SR" routes that parallel 286 about 1/2 of way Indiana to Saltsburg. From Saltburg, you can get to Plum Boro and easily to the NE and E sides of Pittsburgh.

If you don't have one, get a copy of the Delorme PA Gazetter for PA, they run about $20 (Walmart normally has them). The Gazetter has most "SRs" and backroads shown.

Thanks for the info. I had a Gazetter but I can't find it now. Maybe I should clean all the garbage out of my car., it's probably buried in there somewhere.

I plan on camping if I can. I'm not real picky on campsites. I stay in state parks, but I'm not above sneaking off the road somewheres and picking my tent.

I'm moving in with a friend in Bloomfield for a little while until I can find a place. I've got a dog which makes things a bit of a pain.

Hey Jonas, I'm actually in the process of moving to Bloomfield myself! This Saturday night will be the first in the house... Drop me a line, maybe we can meet up at the bar some evening.

I stayed in Bloomfeild for a month or too after moving out of Lawrenceville. Most everything could be walked or biked to.

Maybe we can hit up the BBT. I heard you activist types like to hang out there.;)
